Sailing - Home

Sailing at a competitive level is physically and mentally challenging. At the elite level, it is not just fiercely competitive, it is a highly sophisticated science that requires athletes to be highly fit and agile, as well as tactically and mechanically aware. This level of sailing requires more than just technical boat-handling skills - the equipment sailors use, their diet, their problem-solving abilities and their reaction times all can make a difference to performance.

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Sailing program brings all of this together with sports science and sports medicine support, international competition programs, training facilities and world-class coaches.

About AIS Sailing

The AIS and the Yachting Australia (formerly Australian Yachting Federation) established the AIS Sailing program in January 2001. The primary objective of the AIS Sailing program is to support competitors with the best possible chance of continuing to achieve a top ten overall place at their Olympic-class World Championship and then preparing those competitors for Olympic team selection.

The program is administered from Yachting Australia's offices in Sydney.
