At the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) athletes not only enjoy world-class training and coaching, but have opportunities for personal growth through the Athlete Career and Education program.

About AIS Rowing

The AIS Rowing program was established in Canberra in 1985. The AIS Rowing program is the centre of excellence for Rowing Australia (RA). It takes a leading role in developing Australia’s elite rowers to improve international and domestic rankings and performance at international competitions, World Championships and Olympic games.

The AIS Rowing program is integrated with the Rowing Australia High Performance Program. It consists of a Canberra based residential scholarship program for 26 athletes focusing on their holistic development, complemented by a national team camps program operated at the Canberra base. Reinhold Batschi has been Head Coach of the program since its inception.

The program operates from a complex situated at Orana Bay, Yarralumla, on Lake Burley Griffin. The self-contained facilities comprise a boatshed, pontoons, a strength and conditioning gymnasium, an administration block, a small workshop and a small physiotherapy and massage room.

The program works in very close collaboration with both AIS sports science and sports medicine in designing and monitoring training methodology, and in undertaking research and technological development.
